Our workforce development team is dedicated to assisting the growth of businesses and the workers that sustain their operations. By directing individuals toward job skills improvement programs, education, and training, the Workforce Development Division equips workers with the tools and talents that employers demand.
Port Muskogee’s workforce effort, together with The City of Muskogee Foundation, is investing in talent for Muskogee area companies. If an organization has a hard-to-fill position within Muskogee County or creates a new position with the qualifying NAICS codes and pays more than $110% of the Muskogee average county wage, the recruit could be eligible for a one-time $10,000.00 stipend to purchase or build a home in the city limits of Muskogee.
Eligibility & ApplicationTraining is administered locally through Muskogee’s nationally-acclaimed facility, Indian Capital Technology Center, Indian Capital Technology Center’s Business and Industry Services Team can develop customized, industry-specific training programs that can update and upgrade the skills of the existing workforce. These training sessions can be held at the business site or at its Muskogee campus. Staff can assist with possible funding sources with the State of Oklahoma.
Cherokee Nation Career Services provides tribal citizens with employment training opportunities and job assistance. The department also helps bring industry into northeastern Oklahoma by offering recruiting fairs and employee training. Career Services also oversees many vital programs for the tribe, such as the TERO office, Summer Youth Employment Program, Job Corps, Adult Education Program, vocational training, a reentry program and more.
The Muscogee Nation Employment & Training Services provide career and educational opportunities through quality guidance, from a cultural aspect, to enhance self-sufficiency. Programs include career guidance, job search, training, and on-the-job training funding.
Northeastern State University is ready to help employers with certificate programs for employees that impact job performance, as well as employees’ higher education goals.
Connors State College is committed to assisting employers and employees in building a better future, one student at a time, by offering a multitude of microcredentials for critical occupations. By partnering with Coursera, Connors Works is able to offer over 8000 online, self-paced courses, certificates, and specializations to upskill your workforce.
Port Muskogee understands the importance of career exploration and supports many community efforts, as well as organizing programs, to ensure employers have the opportunity to help shape the future workforce.
Organized and facilitated by Port staff, activities are planned throughout the year, including tours and career fairs. Volunteers from the Greater Muskogee Area Manufacturers Association ensure that every ninth grader in Muskogee County is informed about opportunities in the sector in a one-day event held at every school in the county.
The Port Muskogee staff organized the day-long summit with the intent of helping educators understand workforce needs of Muskogee County employers. Additionally, higher education and career tech professionals will be on hand to ensure that educators are aware of the pathways that exist in Muskogee to help students become successful in technology-based careers.

Regional Junior Achievement is very active in the Muskogee community, providing students with activities, guides and resources for career exploration.
Public schools, technical schools and higher education institutions are part of the Muskogee Area Educational Consortium, whose members meet monthly to work toward strengthening the region’s educational systems and keeping the pipeline of skilled workers flowing to industry. One of the Consortium’s focal points is incorporating STEM into the curriculum at all grade levels. It hosts an annual math and engineering design competition for grades 6-12.
